Vitamin C

비타민 C · 維他命 C

Also known as: L-Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbyl Glucoside, THD Ascorbate

What it actually does

An antioxidant commonly used in cosmetic formulations intended to help support a brighter, more even-looking tone with regular use.

How to use it

Best in an AM serum before sunscreen. Store away from light and heat — brown or oxidised Vitamin C has lost its potency.

The science, in plain English

L-Ascorbic Acid is the most-studied form of topical Vitamin C — effective in some studies but chemically unstable. Derivatives (SAP, MAP, THD) are generally more stable, with somewhat more limited direct evidence.

Myth vs reality

A higher percentage is not automatically better — form, pH and formulation stability matter more than percentage alone.

Limitations of the evidence

Evidence is strongest for stable, well-formulated forms at effective concentrations; results vary and are not guaranteed for any individual.

Who may need extra caution

May not suit very reactive skin, particularly at higher concentrations.
